This is the link to Cory's school show. Its just a little bit of one of the songs. He gets so excited to dress up in a tie. I haven't figured out how to post from you-tube yet.

Looking foward to a good year

I received this email this past week and it really hit home.
Wish the news were filled with more stories like this…

The Whale
If you read a recent front page story of the SF Chronicle, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds
of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had
hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body,
hertail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.
A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farallon Islands (outside the Golden Gate ) and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her . They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed them gently around-she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.
May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.
I pass this on to you
Friends and Loved Ones in the same spirit.
May this Holiday Season and the New Year bring needed
Relief After A Much Entangled Year.

The greatest gifts

Cory made me a card in class along with some gifts. I love handmade presents. In the card he wrote me a poem. Its only a two line poem but I'm sure he was tickled pink to be able to think of something that rhymes. Just in case you can't read it, he said "moms are nice, kids are slipping on ice. " He even lets me know that the poem is done with an arrow. These are the most special gifts.

Christmas Eve

The excitement is growing around here. Luckily we had a few hour distraction going to eat at David's and Betsy's. It was fun as usual, Amber, Jen, Richard, Jaz, and Jade were also there. Cory received two prestents there that seemed to satisfy him till morning. When we got home from dinner he did get to open his jams. He was expecting Sponge Bob again but I surprised him with Scooby Doo. He put them on immediately and was off to prepare a snack for Santa and the Reindeer.
David and Betsy gave us some homemade cookies that worked well for Santa's sweet tooth. Thank god I had some carrots in the fridge for the Reindeer. Cory always like to look outside on Xmas morning to see if any carrots were dropped on the ground by accident, usually there are a few that fall as the team take flight.
And of course we can't forget the milk to wash it all down.
Then there's one last instruction from Cory before bed. "Don't forget to put out wrapping paper for Santa" It explains why Santa's gift wrap often matches those under the tree.
Rachel even suprised me with xmas jams this year. She's so sweet. Too bad she had to work tonight but at least she'll be here in the morning.
Now its time to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Cory's Dad visits

Marc came to visit Cory this weekend. They did a lot of boy stuff that I was relieved from. This is the two of them playing Guitar Hero, a video game that Cory really wants for Christmas that his friend Connor brought over.
They also went miniture golfing, which I can't bare by the way and Cory talked him into playing catch with the football outside. That was tough for Marc because he's used to the warm LA weather. Cory had a great time with him and its good to see them together.

Never ending talent

The City of Reno has an art contest every year for employees and their families. When I read the email regarding the show I immediately thought of Rachel. Each person could enter two pieces so Rachel picked out two of her favorites. As no shock to me she won first place for her pencil drawing she did her junior year of high school. Its hard to see the detail in the picture but in person its amazing.
Not only did she win first place but she also won third place for her photograph. I was so proud. We went to the award ceremony last night and it was very fun. The winners had to leave their artwork to be displayed in an art show for the next month.
I had to include a picture of this piece. Its a three dimensional picture that totally reminded us of that picture Phoebe had on Friends I think was called Gladis.

Cory's Rings Routine

I did a post a while ago and I was trying to attach three small videos to the blog but it wouldn't work. So I broke them in seperate posts and it seems to be working. This one starts out sideways but straighten up in a sec.

More Gym Video

Here's Cory's vault that earned him a bronze medal

Gym Video

I'm bound and determined to post some of Cory's gym video so I'm just going to post one at a time. This one is really short but you get the idea of Cory's ability.

Cory's 1st Gym Competition for 2007/2008

Today was the kick off to the level 5 competition season for Cory. The weather has been rather sketchy this weekend so we were up and out of the house nice and early. The roads weren't as icy as I expected so we got to the competition neighborhood way too early. We stopped at a nearby Starbucks to have some warm drinks while we waited. Even Rachel gave up her Saturday morning sleep to attend the meet. Mom and Gin came to town to see Cory compete. You can see the snowy weather in the backround. Burrrr!

Rachel had her digital camera that captured a few good shots. You can't use flash photograpy so not many of the shots came out. This was one of my favorites. During his parallel bar routine he has to swing to a hand stand three times in a row. I don't think I took a breath through any of them.
This is Cory with a few of his best pals on the team. He ended up doing quite well for the day. He got a gold medal on High Bar, a bronze on Vault, and three fourth place ribbons on Pommel, Rings, and Parallel Bars. A very nice showing for his first meet of the year. He moved up a level from last year and the tricks are much harder.

Cleaning carpets and sewing

A couple of days ago I cleaned the livingroom carpet. Mom and Gin were coming the next day and I had bought this groovy Bisell cleaner some time ago and I wanted to try it out. It turned out to be so easy and it cleaned so well. While I was going back and forth with the machine Cory commented that I was shifting my head side to side. I didn't even realize I was doing it. It reminded me exactly of what Mom used to do when she would sew.

Winter Day..

ook.. so it took me about an hour to get to school.. luckily i was right on time..

but I just got home, and here is the view of outside!!!

It is soooo pretty!

I love it, and I am definitely going to be taking more pictures.. so be ready..

The mountain here is pretty much whited out..covered in snow!

Dixie didnt care too much for the snow..but I was suprised she even came outside to follow me.. After about 3minutes she was shivering.. she needed her coat..

Here is the front view of the house.. you can even see the snow falling!

love,
rach

Snowy Morning...

Well.. we woke up to a HUGE amount of snow.. it is almost 7 now (in the morning) and it is still snowing...
Of course, Cory has a delayed start, which instead of starting at 9, he starts at 10..
Then for me, I have class at 9, and of course I dont have a delayed start! So, I am still trying to figure out how the hell I am going to work this one out..
My Mom took these pictures at about 6 a.m... so thats why they are dark.. you can sort of see the christmas lights.... on the tree and the house...

It's definitely the start of winter.. imagine.. we really could have a White Christmas..

The beginning of Christmas

I decided get the whole tree things done today. Usually I wait a bit longer but Mom and Gin are coming next weekend so I thought I better get it done now. I went by myself to pick it out because Cory and his friends were so content playing video games. I was a little nervous going alone because I didn't have someone to confirm that the tree wasn't lopsided or bare on one side or any of those things you avoid in a tree. Getting in through the fromt door was tricky but nothing got knocked of the walls
Once it was in place I was very happy with my find. Good old Home Depot never lets me down when it comes to trees. I strung the lights and then Cory and his two friends decorated it. I went outside to hang the lights. We have a pine tree in our front yard that works good this time of year. I also hung lights arount the porch. It feels good to participate in the neighborhood festivities.
Here's the finished product. I think the boys did a great job. I just hung some red bows at the end but they did everything else. I love putting up all the xmas decor. It lifts my heart with the anticipation of a great holiday.

Late Night.

I went to work at 3:45, got off at 10:45, and came home. I literally have tried about 5 times to go to sleep, and for some reason I can't. So, I thought hey, why not try and post something, since we clearly are slacking on the blog...

Well, I have been sitting here listening to my music (which I could do 24 hours a day).. the playlist is on random but some favorites that pop up are.. Norah Jones.. Wicked Soudrack.. O-Town (haha).. Kenny G... Good Charlotte.. Jack Johnson.. Ben Harper.. the list could go on...
So as I listen I look at pictures.. (i could do this all day every day as well)

When I was in L.A. for Thanksgiving I brought my camera to take pictures of my friends, for my photo class. Photography is my thing (in case you didnt know already). I spent 4 and a half beautiful hours in the dark room on friday and came out with some of my all time favorite pictures. It was so weird on friday. I actually wanted to cry because of how much I loved my photos. SO I thought I would share a few of my favorites with you. I'm not too happy with the quality of them on the computer (they are scanned in). You should see them in person, they are 1000000 times better....

This was the first one I developed.. and I was ecstatic.. by the way this is Mackenzie... my best friend in the entire world. Yes, she has no top on, (in all the pictures) but it's my style I'm developing. I like it (you dont have to).

My Favorite is this one... it has my label on it too. My photography is called "Broken Photography".. that is one of the labels I came up with so far...(bottom right corner)

More at the beach...

My Second favorite...

So here is what I have been up to. I love my photography, and I am really hoping it plays a part in my future. I cant wait! Well, I am off to bed (for real this time)
Goodnight.
